Flange types

Weld neck flange is the most widely used type in process piping. It gives the highest level of joint integrity due to Butt-welded with a pipe. These types of flanges are used in high pressure and temperature application. The key types of flanges are the welding neck, long welding neck, slip-on, socket wel lap joint, threaded and blind flanges.

From the standpoint of internal pressure and bolt loading, blind flanges, particularly in the larger sizes, are the most highly stressed flange types. However, most of these stresses are bending types near the center, and since there is no standard inside diameter, these flanges are suitable for higher pressure temperature applications.

However, Weld Neck flanges (Fig. 2) are expensive as compared to other flange types. Highly skilled manpower is required for the fabrication of welding neck flanges.

A groove flange is constantly paired with a tongue flange. The tongue flange has the face with a raised ring (i.e. the tongue). One flange has a machined raised ring (also called the tongue) and the other one has machined groove depression (also called the groove).

Those two flanges should match perfectly with each other. In microwave telecommunications, a flange is a type of cable joint which allows different types of waveguide to connect.

Slip-on flanges are easy to use in fabricated applications. This flange is counter bored to accept the pipe before being fillet welded. Flange tongue groove joint (TG) 1. Square flange, Split flanges, Orifice flanges.

As per drawing and standard specification. Piping duct, adaptors, spools. Profile plate cutting. In case this is the first time you’re hearing the phrase, ANSI flanges simply refers to flanges whose construction meets ANSI (American National Standards Institute) specifications.

The flange is the second most used joining method after welding. There are flange types - the plain, the “O” ring and the choke Plain flange - UBR It has a flat face – it is also sometimes called a plain or a cover flange. When mated to another plain or ‘O’ ring flange it gives the best match performance.

A further variant is the O-ring recess and O-ring groove face type. In the case of positively seated sealing elements, there is a choice of flanges for diaphragm-weld packings to DIN.

The two main types of non-asbestos gaskets are the “full face” (FF) for FF flanges and the “flat ring” type for raised face flanges (RF). Non-asbestos gaskets have fully replaced asbestos gaskets for decades as studies demonstrated the risks (for human health) associated with the production, use, and disposal of asbestos materials. With flange Face the form and implementation of the side of a flens are meant, where a sealing ring or gasket will be placed.

In pipe systems of more than inch diameter, the flange connection is more practical and dependable in assembling than screwed connections. This is because flanges allow easy disassembling of piping, are stronger and less likely to leak than threaded fittings.

Different types of flange faces are used as the contact surfaces to seat the sealing gasket material.

Welded neck flange : – It is used for high temperature, high pressure operation or where there is wide fluctuation in pressure and temperature. Most common flange types. As already described before, the most used flange types acc. Vacuum flanges are used for scientific and industrial applications.

There are several types of rim contour designated by letters J, JJ, K, JK, B, P and D. J is the most common shape of a rim flange on passenger cars. The letter B appears at the smallest wheel sizes primarily for older car models, with diameters 12″ and 13″ and rim widths up to 5.
