Stub end dimensions

Dimensions are in millimeters unless otherwise indicated. Weights are in kilograms and approximately given. Stub Ends MSS SP-ANSI B16.

The dimensions and dimensional tolerances defined in MSS SP-are substantially the same as those in ASME B16. Short pattern stub ends are mostly used for flanges from class 3to class 6and above. Besides these standard types, End-Users and contractors can require stub ends with non-standard lengths to suit specific project’s requirement.

All dimensions are in inches. See Table I-for tolerances. Service conditions and joint construction often dictate stub end length requirements. Therefore, the purchaser must specify long or short pattern fitting when ordering.

NOTES: (1) Gasket face finish shall be in accordance with ASME B16. Max’ and ‘Min’ metric dimensions. OD of barrel max and min dimensions (in and mm) are rounded.

The material could be carbon steel,alloy steel and stainless steel material. MSS-SPWeld bevels per ASME B16. Type A stub end is used with lap joint flanges.

Lap joint stub end mainly has two pattern: short pattern and long pattern. Standard: MSS SP-43. Thickness: Sch 10s, 2 ST 40S, 80S, 16 XXS. Metric dimensions are not specified in MSS SP-43.

Contact faces of stub ends shall have a modified spiral or concentric serration. Materials: Carbon Steel: A 1Grade B Seamless. They are available in two standard length, long (ANSI) or short pattern (MSS). Schedule 5s and 10s stub end are usually offered in short lengths, and long lengths are available on special order. It has another name MSS-A stub end, this type is available in all wall thicknesses.

Schedule 40s stub end are supplied in either short or long lengths. Both long pattern and short pattern are used with lap joint flanges. It is essentially a piece of pipe, with one end flared outwards and the other prepared to be welded to a pipe of the same size, material and wall thickness.

Slide a flange onto the stub end and weld the stub end to pipe (not the flange). Since the flange isn’t welded to the pipe, it can be disconnected easily, which creates an access point for frequent cleaning and inspecting. The MSS standard is the regular length stub end and the most commonly used in the flange industry.
